Leadership Experience

Lion Mark is passionate about service and helping wherever he is needed. Because of his personal and professional experience and skills, he has been given many opportunities to serve and lead. His aim has always been and continues to this day to simply try and be the best Lion he can possibly be.

Up until around 2008, his view of his service was to be a good Lion member of his club and help make his local community better. But it was two fellow members in the La Center Lions Club (Lions Ken Hickman and Steve Fuller – right side of photo below, Ken in the wheelchair and Steve behind him) who helped Lion Mark see leadership in a whole new light. By applying his skills/talents as a leader, we can help our club run smoother and increase our overall service to the community. By extension we are doing service with and through the other club members. Put more simply, Leadership is Service.

Those two Lions changed Mark’s life and his trajectory as a Lion leader because this concept that leadership is service made so much sense to him. It was the same reason why he left the classroom as a teacher and became a school superintendent.

As you can see below, around 2008 is when Lion Mark began to say “yes” to Lions service and leadership opportunities within and outside of the club. Never one to shy away from the chance to help, along with his inability to say “no” (as Debbie puts it), his Lions Leadership journey began. Below is a list of the major leadership opportunities where he has helped make our association even better from the club level to the international level through his efforts as a Lion leader.
